Edwards James Olmos starred in the hit series Miami Vice as Lieutenant Martin Castillo. For his role as Martin Castillo, Edward James Olmos won an Emmy Award in 1985 and a Golden Globe Award in 1986. While still working on “Miami Vice,” Edward James Olmos made a movie called Stand and Deliver. Edward James Olmos' recent television work includes the character of Judge Mendoza on NBC’s hit series, “The West Wing,” and Jess Gonzales on the PBS series “American Family.” Miami Vice made a short-lived star out of Don Johnson, who eventually won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Sonny, and supporting star Edward James Olmos (as Martin Castillo) won both the Golden Globe and an Emmy. The first season of the show has a surprising number of famous guest stars, including Bruce Willis, John Turturro, Jimmy Smits, and Pam Grier. Miami Vice is a fascinating cultural document of the 1980s as well as an effective and exciting cop show. Although the rest of the cast was capable, the only one who seemed to hold his own against the Johnson onslaught was Edward James Olmos as Lt. Martin Castillo, the unsmiling by-the-book head of the Metro Dade OCB (Organized Crime Bureau). |
